January 2012. Brazil is an essential reference in the fashion and textile industry in Latin America, a strong Fashion System globally recognized a result of several years of collaborative working between different sectors of the fashion industry.

During his lecture Vinicious Shane, Creation and Development for the Design of Products specialist and founding member of the Orbitato Institute, Brazil, talked about the development process of the fashion industry in Brazil and highlighted how important is for this industry to strengthen the relations between countries to build a world Fashion System.

Vinicius mentioned Paulo Borges, the creator and actual director of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, and also responsible of the successful development of the Brazilian Fashion industry through a 30 years master plan (1996-2006) which put Brazil in the fashion world spotlight and allowed good alliances with Milan, Paris and New York.

A new master plan from 2016 through 2026 seeks to make Brazil a world fashion reference.

&rdquoFashion is the way we express the world culture and feelings, and no matter where we come from, fashion is our common place”, said Shane during his lecture, and also highlighted how the fashion world changed after the 9/11, creating a new vision of the fashion world, making it more social, plural, and cultural integrated.

This changed has led to and industry in which we can appreciate a mixture between futuristic ways of production and natural fibers, having in mind the essential need of the consumers and the environment.

His lecture about new fabrics showed how the industry have developed to meet consumers needs and likes in an ecofriendly way, making new fabrics using new technologies with the less impact. “The future is now. We already have intelligent fabrics which are close to our feelings, give us our medicine and express our thoughts.”
